Medvedev called the anti-state line during the special operation a betrayal In his opinion, in a situation of “war or a special operation,” critics of the leadership oppose themselves to the military fighting for their future. To criticize Russia during the military operation in Ukraine— betrayal, said Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of the Russian Security Council, in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The deputy chairman of the Security Council stressed that it is normal to be dissatisfied with some decisions of the authorities, “this is part of democracy.” But to pursue an “anti-state line” in a difficult situation it is impossible, he believes.
“You can criticize the government and your country, but not in a situation of war or a special operation that is being conducted. Because there are people who fight with weapons in their hands for your country, for your future, for our Fatherland. And in this way you oppose yourself to these people who risk their heads, essentially lay down their lives for it, — explained the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council.
Medvedev added that “not very correct” and criticize your country while abroad. This, he said, is a “cultural code” that is “shared in almost all countries.”
On February 28, a few days after the start of the special operation, State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin called the position of cultural figures who condemn military operations a betrayal.
President Vladimir Putin subsequently spoke of “national traitors” who earn money in Russia, but mentally, in their “slave consciousness, and sometimes geographically are not with Russia”; the West relies on them in its pressure on Moscow, the head of state believes. In his opinion, the Russian people will always be able to distinguish “true patriots” from such “scum and traitors”, and such “natural and necessary self-purification of society” will only strengthen the country.
