A video of the incident on one of the streets of Ivano-Frankivsk circulated on the Internet earlier in the day. The footage shows a group of young people with guitars and a man speaking aggressively to them. One of the musicians began filming what was happening on the phone, after which the man tried to hit him. In the course of a further skirmish, he hit one of the young people in the face, causing him to fall to the ground.

Passers-by tried to reason with the attacker, some called for the police to be called.

In mid-April, Taras Kremin, Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language of Ukraine, proposed replacing the teaching of the Russian language in schools with other subjects.
