A person can be exchanged after a court verdict, this is technically possible, said the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Venediktova. Earlier, a court in Ukraine sentenced Russian military Shishimarin to life imprisonment “The Prosecutor General of Ukraine allowed the exchange of a convicted Russian soldier” />
Ukraine may subsequently exchange Russian serviceman Vadim Shishimarin, sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a civilian in the Sumy region, Prosecutor General of Ukraine Irina Venediktova said on the air of the national telethon.
“Our scenarios for the development of events can be completely different. You can exchange a person after the verdicts of the courts. Yes, it is technically possible,— she said (quote from Ukrayinska Pravda).
Venediktova added that she did not want to “enter into exchange processes” because “this is already politics and diplomacy.” According to her, Ukraine will move purely within the legal field, observing the standards of international humanitarian law.
The day before, on May 23, in Ukraine, for the first time, a sentence was passed against a Russian military man. The court sentenced Shishimarin, who commanded a detachment of the 4th Panzer Kantemirovskaya Division, to life imprisonment.
Shishimarin is 21 years old. In Ukraine, he was found guilty of violating the laws and customs of war. According to investigators, the young man shot several times from a Kalashnikov assault rifle in the head of 62-year-old Alexander Shelipov. The military himself in the video, which was published by the Security Service of Ukraine, confessed to his deed. “I was ordered to shoot, I fired one burst at him, he fell,” — tells Shishimarin on the recording. In court, he apologized for his act and said that he sincerely repented.
After the verdict, the Kremlin repeated that the Russian authorities have no opportunity to protect the interests of Shishimarin on the spot, since the relevant agencies abroad do not actually work. “But that doesn’t mean we won’t consider continuing to try through other channels. The fate of every citizen of Russia is of paramount importance for us, & mdash; Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said (quote from RIA Novosti). The Russian Ministry of Defense did not comment on the Shishimarin case.
