The Prosecutor General's Office recognized the activities of the Open Estonia Foundation in Russia as undesirable. The activity of the organization “poses a threat to the foundations of the constitutional order and security of the Russian Federation,” the department explained.

The prosecutor's office sent information to the Ministry of Justice so that the fund would be entered into the appropriate register.

The Open Estonia Foundation was established in 1990 with the support of American financier and philanthropist George Soros, according to the organization's website. Her goal — “consciously direct the public discussion in the direction of openness and tolerance”, promote the development of “viable, dynamically developing democracy”. , expanding civic space and strengthening the non-profit sector.

The Soros Foundation, with the support of which the Open Estonia Foundation was created, was recognized by the Russian authorities as undesirable back in 2015 for the same reason: a threat to the constitutional order and security of Russia.

After the start of the Russian military operation, Estonia suspended state cultural cooperation with Russia, which financed joint cultural events.
