US and South Korea launch eight missiles in response to North Korean launches

Eight surface-to-surface missiles were launched from the American ATACMS missile system in response to North Korean launches on June 5. Then North Korea fired the same number of shells. South Korea fired seven missiles, the US fired one in response to the launches of the DPRK on June 5, Yonhap reports with reference to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

The first launch was carried out at approximately 4:45 am local time (19:45 Moscow time on June 5). The remaining missiles were launched within 10 minutes. The South Korean military fired a total of seven rounds, and the American side— one. The launches were made from the American operational-tactical missile system ATACMS.

The day before, the Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea reported that the DPRK launched eight short-range ballistic missiles towards the Sea of ​​Japan. According to the military, the shells were launched from several points around Sunan Airport in Pyongyang between 09:08 and 09:43 local time (from 03:08 to 03:48 Moscow time). A Yonhap source also claimed that North Korea fired from at least two different locations. According to the calculations of the South Korean military, this launch was the 18th for the DPRK since the beginning of the year.

North Korean missile tests have been confirmed in Japan. The head of the Ministry of Defense of the country, Nobuo Kishi, announced the launch of at least six missiles from the DPRK in the direction of the Sea of ​​Japan, some of the shells fell in its waters outside the exclusive economic zone of Japan.

The Indo-Pacific Command of the US Armed Forces then announced that the unit is aware of multiple ballistic missile launches from North Korea and is consulting with allies. Then the United States reaffirmed its commitment to the defense of South Korea and Japan.
